There is no single best one. They all lead to the same SACE registration. The best for you depends on your marks, your money, and where you live.

Do TVET colleges offer teaching?

TVET colleges do not offer the four-year BEd degree, which is at universities. But they do offer early childhood (ECD) courses, which train you to teach young children and can lead to a BEd in Foundation Phase. To teach older grades, you study at a university.

Can I study teaching online or by distance?

Yes. You can study the BEd and PGCE by distance, for example through UNISA. This is a good choice if you already work.

Do all universities need the same points for teaching?

No. The marks change from one university to the next. Check each one, or use the APS calculator.

Colleges for early childhood (ECD)

TVET colleges do not offer the school-teaching BEd, but some offer early childhood (ECD) courses, like the Higher Certificate in Early Childhood Care and Education. These train you to teach young children, and can lead to a BEd in Foundation Phase. Find a TVET college on our list, and check it offers an ECD course. To teach older grades, you study the BEd at a university, or a PGCE if you already have a degree.
