What You Need to Know About University of Venda
University of Venda sits in Thohoyandou, Limpopo, and it is a solid option if you want a degree without needing sky-high marks. Univen runs on its own points system, not the standard APS most other universities use. It is also one of the universities NSFAS funds, so plenty of people there rely on that funding to get through.
This is not a university that turns away anyone with decent matric results. If you have a bachelor pass and meet the minimum point score, you are in the running for a degree programme. Diploma and certificate routes open the door even wider for learners who did not hit bachelor level.
What APS Do You Need?
Univan does not use the normal APS scale out of 42. Instead it takes your best six subjects, excludes Life Orientation, and divides each percentage by 10, capping your total at 60 points. Anything below 40% in a subject scores zero, so weak marks can pull your total down fast.
For degree programmes, you need a National Senior Certificate with a bachelor pass and a minimum of 26 points on this scale. You also need at least achievement level 4 (50-59%) in four recognised 20-credit subjects. Diploma programmes only need achievement level 3 (40-49%) in four 20-credit subjects. Certificate programmes just need your NSC, full stop.
Fees and Funding

Univan is one of the universities NSFAS funds, so if you qualify, NSFAS can cover your tuition, accommodation, and other costs. Getting funding sorted early takes pressure off before registration.
