What subjects do you choose in Grade 9?
In Grade 9 you choose the 7 subjects you will take from Grade 10 to Grade 12. Four are compulsory: a Home Language, a First Additional Language, Life Orientation, and either Mathematics or Maths Literacy. You then choose 3 elective subjects from the packages your school offers.
Most South African schools group the three electives into set packages along science, commerce and humanities lines, so you pick a package rather than any three subjects you like. Ask your school for its subject choice booklet to see which ones it runs.

Compare Grade 10 subject packages
Every learner takes a Home Language, a First Additional Language, Life Orientation, and either Mathematics or Maths Literacy. You then pick three more subjects to make up your 7 subjects. Schools group those three into packages, so you choose a package rather than any three subjects you like.
1. Maths or Maths Literacy?
2. Pick the three subjects closest to your school's package
Still deciding between Mathematics and Maths Literacy? See what each one opens and closes, with real numbers.
These packages come from students who used the NavyBlue APS calculator. Marks are typed in by students and are not verified, and the numbers describe people who used this calculator rather than every learner in South Africa. Your school decides which packages it offers, so always check its subject choice booklet.
