What do you want to become?

There is no single official list. Different guides split the same jobs in different ways, which is why you will see 7, 10 or 21 fields depending on who wrote it. We use eleven: health and social services, education, law and justice, transport and aviation, engineering and technology, business and finance, technology and IT, safety and security, property and real estate, trades and artisans, and food and hospitality.

The best one is the one you can actually get into with the marks you have. Start from your APS, not from a job title: our APS calculator shows which courses you qualify for right now. If your marks are not where you hoped, you still have options, including courses that need no maths and courses that need no degree.

Plenty. A trade like electrician or plumber pays well and is learned at a TVET college, not a university. So is being a chef. Some careers also open through a higher certificate or a diploma, which need a lower APS than a degree.
