Where can you study real estate at university?

You can study real estate at 4 public universities in South Africa. Each one asks for a different mark to get in, and a few use their own points system instead of APS. Tap a university to open its page, or work out your APS to see which ones you can get into.

You do not become an estate agent by getting a university degree. A property degree suits valuation and development. To be an agent, you join an agency and get your NQF4 and Fidelity Fund Certificate through the PPRA, see the section below.

Where to start: PPRA and training

You do not become an estate agent by getting a degree. You start by joining a registered estate agency, then get your Fidelity Fund Certificate and NQF4 qualification through the PPRA and accredited training providers. Here is where to begin.

National

PPRA (Property Practitioners Regulatory Authority)

The regulator. Here you apply for your Fidelity Fund Certificate (FFC) and see the steps. The PPRA also runs the 'One Learner, One Estate Agency' youth programme.

National (optional)

Study a property degree (optional)

Some universities offer Property Studies or Real Estate degrees. These suit valuation, development, and management, and are not required to be an agent.

The NQF4 Real Estate qualification is done through accredited training providers, often arranged by your agency. Compare providers and check they are accredited.

Private colleges

Private colleges also offer the real estate (NQF4) course. They charge fees, so always check the college is properly registered and its course is accredited before you pay.
