What this NSFAS calculator tells you
- If you can get the NSFAS bursary, the NSFAS loan, or nothing, and why.
- How much money NSFAS can give you in one year, for food, transport, books and a place to stay.
- Which documents you need when you apply.
It uses the official NSFAS rules. You do not need to sign up.
NSFAS 2027 applications are open. NSFAS says they close on 31 October 2026, so do not wait.
How the NSFAS calculator decides
- You must be a South African citizen or permanent resident.
- You must study at a public university or a public TVET college.
- Your family must earn R350,000 or less a year. If you have a disability, your family can earn up to R600,000.
- If your family got a Child Support Grant, Foster Child Grant or Care Dependency Grant in the last 3 years, you pass the money check.
- NSFAS pays for your first diploma or degree. For Honours or Masters, there is only the NSFAS loan.
- If you are already studying, you must pass 50% of your subjects at university, or 70% at a TVET college.
- Where you stay decides your money. You get money for a place to stay if you live in a res or flat, or transport money if you live at home.
