Questions people ask

How do I check my NSFAS status?

Log in to your myNSFAS account at my.nsfas.org.za and open the Track Funding Progress tab. You can also check on the NSFAS WhatsApp line (063 093 5671), the USSD code *120*67327#, or by calling 0800 067 327. Have your ID number ready.

What does 'Provisionally Funded' mean?

It means you qualify for NSFAS, but the funding is only confirmed once you have registered at a public university or TVET college. Register as soon as you are accepted, then sign your NSFAS agreement.

How long does NSFAS take to approve my application?

It varies. Some students are funded within a few weeks, but many wait until they have registered at an institution. Check your status every week or two rather than every day, the stages take time.

My status says rejected. What can I do?

You can submit an appeal within 30 days on myNSFAS, with documents that explain the rejection (updated income proof, a death certificate, or missing consent). See our NSFAS guide for the full appeal steps and other funding options.

How do I know if my NSFAS allowance has been paid?

Once your status shows Payments, your allowances are released through your institution or your NSFAS payment method. The portal shows the amounts and dates. If a payment is missing, contact your institution's financial aid office first.
