How to Apply

I know online applications can get stressful, especially if your data runs out or the site crashes, but just push through step-by-step. Apply through the Central Applications Office (CAO) at https://www.cao.ac.za/ and make sure you have your ID, latest results, and proof of payment.

You’ll pay an application fee set by the CAO, and late applications come with a higher fee. There’s a strict deadline, so don’t wait for your prelims or trial results to start. If you’re stuck, you can call the admissions call centre at 031 819 9299 for help. Walk-in applications are not standard, so stick to online.

Closing date

CAO manages the first application step for many KwaZulu-Natal universities. Keep your CAO number safe from day one.

How you apply

Online, through the university's portal

Know what you're applying for

Before you apply, work out what you're interested in studying and check whether you meet the entry requirements — it decides which programmes are worth putting on your application.

Documents you'll need

  • Certified copy of your ID or passport
  • Certified copy of your latest results (Grade 11 or matric, whichever you have)
  • Academic transcript — only if you're a transfer student from another institution
  • SAQA evaluation — only if you did your schooling outside South Africa
  • Proof of residence — only if you're applying for a res spot

Don't forget NSFAS

NSFAS (National Student Financial Aid Scheme) is a separate application from your university application, with its own closing date. Applying to Mangosuthu University of Technology does not apply you for NSFAS — you need to do both.

Apply for NSFAS at nsfas.org.za
