How to Apply
I know online application portals can feel like a nightmare when the site is slow or the instructions are unclear, but take it one step at a time. Apply online only through the WSU application portal, since WSU does not accept paper applications for most programmes. Your window opens on 2 May 2026 and closes on 31 October 2026, so do not leave it for the last week.
WSU charges an application fee of R100, which is non-refundable, and you should never pay it into an individual person's bank account. Have certified copies of your ID and your latest results ready, along with a working email address and cellphone number, since you will upload scanned PDF, PNG or JPEG documents. Download the WSU prospectus PDF from the official site to check your programme's exact requirements before you submit.

Know what you're applying for
Before you apply, work out what you're interested in studying and check whether you meet the entry requirements — it decides which programmes are worth putting on your application.
Documents you'll need
- Certified copy of your ID or passport
- Certified copy of your latest results (Grade 11 or matric, whichever you have)
- Academic transcript — only if you're a transfer student from another institution
- SAQA evaluation — only if you did your schooling outside South Africa
- Proof of residence — only if you're applying for a res spot
Don't forget NSFAS
NSFAS (National Student Financial Aid Scheme) is a separate application from your university application, with its own closing date. Applying to Walter Sisulu University does not apply you for NSFAS — you need to do both.
