How to Apply
I know these online portals can feel like a nightmare when the deadline is looming, but take it one step at a time and you will get through it. Apply directly at vut.ac.za, where the application fee for all applicants is R110 for the 2027 intake. Applications for the 2027 academic year opened on 9 June 2026 and close on 30 September 2026, while residence applications stay open a little longer, until 31 October 2026.
Before you start, have your ID or passport, your latest Grade 11 or Grade 12 results, an active email address and a cell phone number ready for OTP codes. You pay the application fee on the portal first, then you get access to submit your actual application with your 1st and 2nd choice programmes. Once you have paid and applied, keep checking your email and the portal for your status update.

Know what you're applying for
Before you apply, work out what you're interested in studying and check whether you meet the entry requirements — it decides which programmes are worth putting on your application.
Documents you'll need
- Certified copy of your ID or passport
- Certified copy of your latest results (Grade 11 or matric, whichever you have)
- Academic transcript — only if you're a transfer student from another institution
- SAQA evaluation — only if you did your schooling outside South Africa
- Proof of residence — only if you're applying for a res spot
Don't forget NSFAS
NSFAS (National Student Financial Aid Scheme) is a separate application from your university application, with its own closing date. Applying to Vaal University of Technology does not apply you for NSFAS — you need to do both.

Register with your ID number and contact details.

Upload your documents
Add your certified ID and results, plus anything else the portal asks for.

Submit before the closing date
Pay the application fee if there is one, and keep your reference number.
