Before you apply
How to Apply
I know the online portal can glitch at the worst times, but just keep calm and push through. Apply at https://www.uj.ac.za/Apply. You’ll need your ID, latest results, and proof of payment for your application fee. The deadline is 31 October 2025 at 12:00 for all undergrad applications, so don’t wait till the last minute.
Make sure you get your documents scanned and ready before you start. UJ does almost everything online now, so you won’t need to drop off papers in person. If you want to check your application status, just use your ID number on their site.

Closing date
UJ applications are free, but the deadline still matters because the 2027 cycle closes on 31 October 2026.
How you apply
Online, through the university's portal
Know what you're applying for
Before you apply, work out what you're interested in studying and check whether you meet the entry requirements — it decides which programmes are worth putting on your application.
Documents you'll need
- Certified copy of your ID or passport
- Certified copy of your latest results (Grade 11 or matric, whichever you have)
- Academic transcript — only if you're a transfer student from another institution
- SAQA evaluation — only if you did your schooling outside South Africa
- Proof of residence — only if you're applying for a res spot
Don't forget NSFAS
NSFAS (National Student Financial Aid Scheme) is a separate application from your university application, with its own closing date. Applying to University of Johannesburg does not apply you for NSFAS — you need to do both.

After you apply
UJ usually notifies applicants by portal update, SMS, or email, so keep all three in reach.
A provisional acceptance means UJ likes your application but still needs your final Matric results or any extra faculty checks.
If UJ sends you a provisional acceptance, act fast. Finalise funding and be ready for online registration once final results land.
