How to Apply

I know online application portals can feel like a maze, but take it one step at a time and you'll get through it. Apply at student.uwc.ac.za or through www.uwc.ac.za/online-applications, and you don't pay an application fee. Applications for 2027 open on 2 April 2026 and close on 30 September 2026. Some professional programmes close earlier, so check your faculty page for exact details.

Have your ID, matric or Grade 11 results, and proof of subjects ready before you start the form. Pick your programme choices carefully since your APS and subject marks decide what you qualify for. Keep an eye on your email after you submit, UWC sends your confirmation number there.

Documents you'll need

  • Certified copy of your ID or passport
  • Certified copy of your latest results (Grade 11 or matric, whichever you have)
  • Academic transcript — only if you're a transfer student from another institution
  • SAQA evaluation — only if you did your schooling outside South Africa
  • Proof of residence — only if you're applying for a res spot

Don't forget NSFAS

NSFAS (National Student Financial Aid Scheme) is a separate application from your university application, with its own closing date. Applying to University of the Western Cape does not apply you for NSFAS — you need to do both.

    Add your certified ID and results, plus anything else the portal asks for.

    Pay the application fee if there is one, and keep your reference number.
