How to Apply
I know application portals can be stressful and confusing, especially when the deadlines are creeping up, but take this one step at a time.
Apply online at https://applyonline.uct.ac.za/ for both undergrad and postgrad programs. Undergrad applications for 2027 open on 1 April 2026 and close on 31 July 2026, and UCT does not accept late undergrad applications. Postgrad coursework applications close on 30 September 2026, while postgrad research-only applications stay open with no closing date.
Have your ID or passport, your Grade 11 results or latest Grade 12 results, and certified copies of your academic records ready before you start. You'll also need a working email address to create your account. The application fee is R100 for applicants from South Africa and the SADC region.

Know what you're applying for
Before you apply, work out what you're interested in studying and check whether you meet the entry requirements — it decides which programmes are worth putting on your application.
Documents you'll need
- Certified copy of your ID or passport
- Certified copy of your latest results (Grade 11 or matric, whichever you have)
- Academic transcript — only if you're a transfer student from another institution
- SAQA evaluation — only if you did your schooling outside South Africa
- Proof of residence — only if you're applying for a res spot
Don't forget NSFAS
NSFAS (National Student Financial Aid Scheme) is a separate application from your university application, with its own closing date. Applying to University of Cape Town does not apply you for NSFAS — you need to do both.

Create your UCT applicant account
Go to applyonline.uct.ac.za and register with a working email address.

Complete the full online form
Fill in the 10-step form with your personal details, school info, and programme choices.

Upload one clear PDF of your documents
Include your certified Grade 11 report and your ID in a single scan.

Pay the fee and submit on time
Use the applicant number from your acknowledgement email and submit before 31 July 2026.
After you apply
After you submit to UCT, keep watching your portal and make sure your extra requirements are done too.
UCT will email your login details, then update your PeopleSoft account as your application moves. Some offers stay conditional until final results and NBTs are in.
Book and write your NBTs if UCT requires them, then respond quickly if you receive a conditional offer. Housing is separate, so do not leave that application too late.
