NSFAS funding
Tshwane University of Technology is a public university, so NSFAS (National Student Financial Aid Scheme) funding applies if you qualify financially. NSFAS is a bursary, not a loan, for students who qualify — you don't pay it back. It can cover tuition, res or a living allowance, meals, books, and a personal allowance.
NSFAS is a separate application from your university application, with its own closing date — applying to Tshwane University of Technology doesn't apply you for NSFAS.
Apply for NSFAS at nsfas.org.zaThe "missing middle"
If your household earns between R350,000 and R600,000 a year, you likely won't qualify for NSFAS but may still struggle to afford fees — this is called the "missing middle." NSFAS runs a loan scheme for this group: it's interest-free while you study, and repayment only starts 12 months after you leave the university.
Fees & funding
TUT charges a R250 application fee. Residence and funding are separate jobs, so get NSFAS or sponsor paperwork moving early too.
