Sol Plaatje University (SPU), established in 2014 in Kimberley, South Africa, is one of the country’s youngest universities and is named after the prominent South African intellectual, journalist, and human rights activist, Sol Plaatje. Sol Plaatje University uses the Admission Points Score (APS) system to assess applicants. Points are allocated based on the achievement levels in six recognised NSC subjects, excluding Life Orientation. For most programmes, a minimum APS of 25-32 is required, depending on the programme’s competitiveness. English (as Home Language or First Additional Language) is compulsory for all programmes, with different level requirements. For certain courses, specific subject levels (e.g., Mathematics, Physical Sciences) are also required. The APS score is calculated by summing the points obtained for each subject, and additional points may be awarded for Home Language achievement. Applicants should carefully review each programme’s APS and subject requirements, as some courses may require higher scores or specific subject combinations.
